If you are planning to get to know Stockholm, you should also visit its wonderful archipelago! During this bike tour you will get to know the so well-known Scandinavian flair of the Swedish capital city as well as its beautiful archipelago. All in all it is 30.000 islands. Vaxholm - the capital city, but also charming islands as Rindö, Värmdö or Sandhamn will fascinate you. This cycling holiday offers the perfect mix of metropolis and archipelago flair, culinary highlights and nature as far as the eye can see. So, what are you waiting for?
Day 1: Arrival to Stockholm
Take your first stroll through Sweden’s capital and explore some of the many sights and tourist attractions. In the evening a welcome briefing and bike fitting (if booked) takes place. Overnight stay in Stockholm.
Day 2: Stockholm - Vaxholm ca. 35 km
After breakfast you start your tour across Djurgården, the green island of Stockholm to continue along the coast to Djursholm. The suburb ist popular for townsman, you will recognise this in many, beautiful houses. The last 15 kilometers are leading you through Swedish landscape until you reach Vaxholm - the capital city of the archipelago. Visit palace Bogesund or the grand fortress from 16th century which can be reached by short ferry trip.
Day 3: Vaxholm - Djurö ca. 40 km
By ferry you reach the island of Rindö. After a short exploration trip you continue to the island of Värmdö. You are now in the middle of the archipelago. Via the impressive Djuröbron (bridge) you finally reach your hotel, which is awaiting you with unforgettable views into the archipelago.
Day 4: Djurö - Runmarö - Sandhamn - Djurö ca. 20 km
In just five minutes your today's ferry brings you from Stavsnäs to Runmarö, one of the bigger islands in the archipelago. Here, well-known artists spent their summer to get some new inspiration for their next projects in their idyllic summer houses. In Södersunda the house in Båtmanstorpet 95 is worth a visit. It is one of the few remaining houses from the Russian devastation around 1719 and today is a private museum with thousands of old items and documents from this period. Afterwards another ferry brings you in ca. one hour to the popular island of Sandhamn with nice options for your well-deserved lunch break. Enjoy the afternoon on this favored summer island before another boat brings you back.
Day 5: Djurö - Saltsjöbaden ca. 50 km
Via Fågelbrolandet you cycle to the village of Gustavsberg. Not far away the Artipelag, a modern art museum with impressive art and sculptures on ca. 10.000m2 is located. Via Skurusund bridge (photo stop) you finally reach Saltsjöbaden, your today's destination. The idyllic small town is a very popular local recreation area.
Day 6: Saltsjöbaden - Stockholm ca. 35 km
On your last stage you cycle along wonderful coastal paths as well as through a nature reserve to Erstavik. Afterwards you will pass world cultural heritage Skogskyrkogården (woodland cemetery), which is according to UNESCO an impressive example for the fusion of architecture and cultural landscape. After a few more kilometers you will be back in Stockholm again where you reach your hotel via the islands of Södermalm and Långholmen.
Day 7: Individual departure or extension
